Jude Griebel’s sculptures anthropomorphize animal species, usually considered benign, whose habitats have been disrupted. Each creature presents a dire warning. Carved from wood, the works are finished in clay putties developed for use in the taxidermy industry, before being painted with great detail in acrylic. Walking a line between the subversive, and the humorous, Griebel draws on art historical traditions of the anthropomorphic body to reflect on environmental degradation, interspecific relationships, and climate concerns.
