Kenichiro Fukumoto was born in 1986 in Hiroshima, Japan, and received his MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2014. He currently lives and work in Tokyo. His major exhibitions include “Fragments of the Earth” (Nanzuka 2G, Tokyo, 2023), “Resonating Landscapes” (Komagome Soko, Tokyo, 2023), “Fragments and Vessels of the Earth” (SFT Gallery, The National Art Center, Tokyo, 2020), “Yanbaru Art Festival” (Okinawa, 2019), “3331 Art Fair” (Blum & Poe, Tokyo, 2019), “Landscape Poetry, Kenichiro Fukumoto | Stephen Wong” (Project Fulfill Artspace, Taipei, 2017), and “After images...” (iPreciation, Singapore, 2017).
Inspired by natural phenomena like water ripples, geological layers, cell division and fusion, and airborne spores, as well as time-worn artifacts like fossils and ancient vessels, this work seeks to explore the cycles of life, energy, and light. Recently, the artist has expanded from oil and drawing to include sculptures that blend wood carving and ceramics, adding new dimensions to their exploration of these enduring themes.
