Developed during a residency on the highly privatized Captiva Island in Florida, Baliza was inspired by the myriad creative protests that erupted during the summer of 2019 and led to the overthrow of Puerto Rico’s governor, Ricardo Roselló. The video features pastrana santiago improvising underwater while dragging a sign that repurposes advertising language to repel tourists, reading: “YOUR ISLAND HERE.”
