In Reflection of the Moon, Minyoung Kim transforms a quiet domestic still life into a subtly surreal scene, where a silver goblet overflows with blue liquid reflecting the moon. Surrounding objects—a bowl of oranges, a ceramic vase, and one of her signature black feline figures—contribute to the sense of uncanny tension. These mischievous cat-like creatures often serve as symbols of watchfulness, disrupting the serenity of the space. The work blurs the line between reality and illusion, inviting viewers into a dreamlike moment of quiet mystery.

Minyoung Kim is a Korean artist born in 1989, currently based in UK. She holds an MFA in Painting with Distinction from the Slade School of Fine Art. Her works have earned her several accolades, including the Slade Print Fair Scholarship and the Terence Cuneo Award. Kim’s practice centers on exploring the surreal and uncanny through playful yet enigmatic narratives featuring mischievous feline figures. Blending personal emotion with visual metaphor, her work invites viewers into spaces that straddle whimsy and tension, fantasy and unease.
