NADA New York 2022

Mourners is an attempt to understand the place of mourning life. The disembodied hands reflect the artist’s personal experience of medical procedures that focus on and isolate parts of the body, evoking that suspended time of grief when our hands hang, forlorn and useless. Inspired by the diminutive tomb sculptures memorializing John The Fearless (Duke of Burgundy 1371-1419), this work focuses on the beauty of the figures and the pridefulness of commissioning one’s own army of mourners (as they were, by John The Fearless himself).
