Azadeh Gholizadeh, Yellow Ochre, 2023
Wool on canvas mesh
31 × 29 inches
Azadeh Gholizadeh says of this tapestry, “This view is a zoomed-in section of a photo I took in a nature park in Madison, Wisconsin. While hiking, I passed by a Spruce tree. I loved how light peeked through this tree’s pyramidal shape, tall height, and dense foliage. While abstracting the image, I wanted to create depth and perspective using precise details, clear outlines, and flat colors—a method inspired by the ways that Japanese woodblock prints read.”
