Image of artwork titled "Make it Move" by Carrie Schneider

Carrie Schneider, Make it Move, 2021
Unique chromogenic photograph made in ca
28 × 24 inches

Using a camera hand-constructed by the artist, Carrie Schneider creates highly personal and painterly works that are developed through a photographic process, layering and building images through iteration and chance. Working early in the morning when no light can infiltrate her studio, she exposes color photographic paper to found images through the camera’s lens.

Works at NADA were part a major museum solo exhibition at MASS MOCA in 2023, for which there is an accompanying catalog. Schneider has a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is in numerous museum collections, including The Art Institute of Chicago; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; The Minneapolis Institute of Art; Haggerty Museum of Art, Milwaukee. She is a recipient of a Creative Capital Award, a Fulbright Fellowship, and attended the Whitney Museum ISP’s program, among many other honors.

Schneider was born in Chicago in 1979 and lives and works in Brooklyn and Hudson, NY.
