Hanna Krzysztofiak combines grotesque and kitsch aesthetics to delve into uncomfortable and difficult areas. In an effort to make a universal “danse macabre” out of her own anxieties, she lavishly uses kitschy items and decorations from her own personal collection, or the Internet.
Her most recent project, “Last Spring,” with its aesthetics reminiscent of illustrated fairy tales from her childhood, is fully focused on the experience of the ‘war in the neighborhood,’ – Russia’s atrocious invasion of Ukraine.
