Image of artwork titled "The Moles" by Hanna Krzysztofiak

Hanna Krzysztofiak, The Moles, 2022
acrylic on canvas
43 × 59 inches

The artist was inspired by a passage, an image from Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Mole. Previously locked in a huge mountain, the people now come to the surface. They emerge from the rocky mountain, mutilated and clumsy, and come out onto sun-warmed earth. This is the image that comes to mind when you seem to be living in a civilized world and suddenly war breaks out next door, with the invaders behaving bestially and without respect for anything. War criminals, for centuries debased by contempt from those in power, come out of their cities, towns, and villages. They crawl out and show the world the disgusting things that can be done by those who are humiliated by the system and blinded by the myth of the supposed greatness of their country.
