Hubert Schmalix (b. 1952, Austrian) dedicates himself to the act of painting as a sensual event. Color and figuration dispense with the narrative element and, in the dissolution of classical genres into an ornamental syntax, commit themselves entirely to the return to the essence—the intensity and materiality of painting.
