Monuments and In Memory of One are new and ongoing bodies of work that involve collecting various metal wares and household items made of brass, aluminum copper, and pewter. Rooted in the tradition of the ‘found object’, Metsos approaches these objects as ‘lost objects’ which she describes as existing in economies of limbo. Whether functional or decorative, the objects are stripped of their form, becoming material as they are smelted down into blank ingots. She then letter-punches a list of the plaque’s contents back on its surface, opening registers of legibility, symbol, form, and meaning.
