When a book is not free What mistook thee To take or steal a look. The book at hand In high demand Appeals appellates of coarse In court of course The horde of borks Bochord a prison of books so wuts at stake may be as great as freedoms appear on others my dear differently on whom they are draped. A place for books, late 14c, Latin librarium “from liber (genitive libri) “book, paper, parchment.” Latin liber (from Proto-Italic *lufro-) was originally “the inner bark of trees,” and perhaps is from PIE *lubh-ro- “leaf, rind,” a derivative of the PIE root *leub(h)- “to strip, to peel” (see leaf (n.)). Comparing Albanian labë “rind, cork;” Lithuanian luobas “bast,” Latvian luobas “peel,” Russian lub “bast,” de Vaan writes that, “for want of a better alternative, we may surmise that liber is cognate with *lubh- and goes back to a PIE word or a European word ‘leaf, rind.’” liberte “freedom, liberty, free will” (14c., Modern French liberté), from Latin libertatem (nominative libertas) “civil or political freedom, condition of a free man; absence of restraint; permission,” from liber “free” (see liberal (adj.)). At first of persons; of communities, “state of being free from arbitrary, despotic, or autocratic rule or control” is from late 15c. Cassandra Press is a 501 (c) (3) artist-run publishing and educational platform producing lo-fi printed matter, classrooms, projects, artist books, and exhibitions. CASSANDRA PRESS is founded by artist Kandis Williams-editor at large. They operate out of Los Angeles, California. F is a biannual magazine published and edited by Adam Marnie. München Monopoly was originally presented by Galerie Christine Mayer (Munich, Germany) for Various Others Munich. The exhibition was organized by the artist, Kristina Schmidt, who prompted a selection of artists “to modify this statue as you please: engrave it, expand the shape, cut arms off, mount arms on, spray paint it, pour glitter over it, totally materially transform it, make a coffin for it, surround it with a block of concrete or resin, put it on coasters…own it, make it yours.” Wendy’s Subway is a non-profit reading room, writing space, and independent publisher located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Since their founding in 2013, they have provided an open and versatile platform for expanding modes of reading, writing, and publishing.
