Ahu Akgün, “what the eye does not see, the heart does grieve over,” 2021, oil paint on canvas, 50 x 60 cm

In her artistic practice, Ahu Akgün pulls out details from the mundane, and placing these snippets of daily encounters under the spotlight of her paintings, brings out their ephemeral quality. Through her “Voids,” the artist attempts to fill spaces created by loss, to fill an intangible void with a loving and caring poetical prose. In this selection of “Voids,” Akgün figuratively replaces the imaginary locus of her loss and substitutes it with dry plants as she lingers on the emotions that have not yet been released.
