SHRINE is presenting large-scale paintings by Thomas Dillon, a self-taught painter from Philadelphia, with visionary sculptures and assemblages by Black self-taught artist, Bessie Harvey.
Thomas Dillon (b. 1986) uses untraditional art tools such as sticks, his hands and long cardboard tubes to manifest his canvases. His paintings often appear abstract at first glance but quickly reveal figures, faces and complex narratives. Bessie Harvey (1929-1994) primarily relied on forms found in nature as a starting point, but her own visionary impulses led to highly unique figurative assemblages.
