Oreka James examines the fluctuations between loss and love, life and death—while making multiple references to oral traditions, African-Caribbean folklore, ancient cultures, and animism. James believes that objects, matter, and symbols travel between realms. The dreamworld informs the very shape of their work. Each artwork, like a reminiscence, carries references to every part of the art-making journey itself. Frames function as a continuation of the work, while sculptures operate as placeholders and gateways to the unknown.
