Installation view: Lido Pimienta, presented by Patel Brown, Toronto

With expressives mediums such as drawings, paintings, hand-dipped candles, and textiles in forms of tapestries, pillows, and hammocks, Pimienta fills her works with colours and symbolic faces that remind her of her upbringing and mark reflections of her personal memories inspired by her childhood. The dynamic presentation features various works by Pimienta, creating a connection between the domestic interiors of Governor’s Island with Pimienta’s childhood memories of her grandmother’s house, an inspiration for many of the works: “The house was empty, but this single chinchorro in this single bedroom rocked me and my mother” – Lido Pimienta.
