Atong Atem is an Ethiopian born, South Sudanese artist and writer living in Narrm/ Melbourne, internationally recognised for her surreal, colourful portrait photography. With reference to mythology and fantasy, belonging and truth, Atem considers identity, otherness, and the ways in which we construct images and stories to understand ourselves, our culture, and our surroundings.
