Founded in Shanghai in 2019, Gene Gallery supports artists whose practices are shaped by distinct temporal sensibilities and regional contexts. Rooted in the cultural conditions of contemporary Asia, the gallery has grown from an engagement with the region’s diverse artistic landscape to working with emerging artists from around the world whose works reflect on history, identity, and social change. Through the activation of non-traditional spaces, Gene brings together projects that connect spatial narratives, local histories, critical inquiry, and contemporary artistic experimentation.
