Renelle White Buffalo, Deep Rooted, 2023
Acrylic, collage, oil pastel on canvas
49 × 36 inches
Renelle White Buffalo’s work draws deeply from her Sičáŋǧu Lakota heritage, memories of her upbringing in rural South Dakota, and her relationship to the land and environment. Working primarily in acrylic, collage, and printmaking, White Buffalo creates compositions that weave symbolism, personal history, and abstracted forms into her own unique visual language. Her practice reflects an ongoing exploration of cultural identity, intergenerational memory, and the stories embedded in a specific place. Through layering, repetition, and mark-making, she translates elements of Lakota tradition and lived experience into works that balance narrative resonance with formal abstraction.
