Mel Arsenault’s practice explores wonder as a critical and embodied form of attention, engaging both spiritual and ecological perspectives on the intelligence of matter. Working with talismanic hybrid forms, she creates sculptural works where corporealities merge, celebrating the transformative capacities of organic and mineral worlds.

Her work reflects on the ways matter takes shape and unfolds in space—from cellular to celestial structures—suggesting continuities between clay, bodies, and living systems. Fractured, layered, and rhythmic, these forms evoke the formal logics of growth, circulation, and metamorphosis.

Focusing on the chromatic and textural development of glass “skins,” Arsenault situates her practice in relation to painting and drawing, while working closely with material processes. Treating minerals as collaborators, she embraces the unpredictability of chemical transformation, allowing fire to complete the work and welcoming each outcome as a form of controlled transformation.
