april april presents new sculptures and works on paper by Montréal-based artist Bronson Smillie (b. 1992 Calgary, Alberta).
Smillie’s practice involves sourcing and working with materials that no longer fulfill their purpose: home storage units, office stationery, postage stamps, address books, bar rags, industrial recording charts, scrolls, and craft kits.
Rather than trying to transform found materials, the artist is invested in the accentuation of objects’ pre-existing, functional design elements through mark making with materials such as soft pastel or spike belts.
