Drawing and mark-making are central to Kevin McNamee-Tweed’s practice. In the works on paper—typically mulberry paper torn down from larger handmade sheets—the mechanics of crafting an image become intimately visible. Not merely a way of studying or developing imagery, the artist’s pencil drawings are unique explorations of the themes found throughout McNamee-Tweed’s expansive scope. With variety in subject and style, some drawings highlight loose and spontaneous mannerisms, while others evince exacting, slowly-built images. Throughout these warm, tactile, and intimate works is a spirit of play and experimentation.
