New York

Adam Lupton, “Out on the Waves in the Night,” 2023

Storage is an artist-run gallery that grew out of Onyedika Chuke’s studio in 2020, into a basement in Chinatown. The gallery was called Storage, firstly as a gesture to the way the space was originally used, acting as the storage for the operating restaurant above its ceiling, and secondly as to signify a space for an archive. The chief analytic for Chuke’s curation comes from his experience growing up in NYC as a foster child, which has grown into a sensibility for works that contemplate urban existence and Storage’s nontraditional approach to community building, commerce, and mutual aid.
