Laura Lit’s animal-sized reliefs are less abstraction than realization of a spirit form. She starts each with meditation, drawing immediately the images that visit From a sketch she patiently builds each piece like a body: a skeleton of wood, muscles of foam, tissue of paper clay, skins of acrylic and oil, and membranes of resin. The reliefs have an organic symmetry. They feel alive.
BA from RISD, Lit worked in architectural restoration, film make-up, photo-realistic painting, and prosthetics—experiences that inform her work.
