Don Edler’s “tablet” sculptures are ecological portraits, wall-bound reliefs that investigate how we remember our histories through the objects we leave behind, and how those objects and histories influence and are influenced by the environment. An array of manmade detritus is embedded within the surface of modular, carved wood panels and coated in a thick impasto of homemade wax, giving the impression that the entire tablet is composed of a single enigmatic material. The assemblage of found objects produces glyph-like associations communicating the myths, histories and values of our time.
