Celia Rakotondrainy, “What if I could actually speak with you?,” 2021

Celia Rakotondrainy inspects censorship and the hyper-sexualization of nude bodies on social media, specifically Instagram. The desire to achieve unattainable virtual aesthetics has created widespread forms of social anxiety and body dysmorphia. Rakotondrainy translates this anxiety into immoderate proportions, in bright and loud colors contrasting with skin tones. This work represents the superficiality towards which we run, but which, by comparison with others, deforms us and then destroys us. In addition, are her signature double-exposed portraits that survey identity construction.
