Tamara Johnson, “Colander with sponge and clip,” 2021. Courtesy of ex ovo, image by Trey Burns.

ex ovo presents new work by Tamara Johnson. Johnson hones in on a meticulously rendered personal iconography drawn from a suburban childhood, frozen to carry the psychological weight of memory. Here, colanders act as filters, catching the objects too large to pass through their mesh in puzzling juxtapositions. Operating as charm bracelets, they tell fragmented stories & reveal autobiographical narratives about the rituals of feminine experience. Johnson’s objects attempt to hold the flux of vulnerability and humor tightly together, creating a precarious slippage both solid & effervescent.
