Rivalry Projects

Rivalry presents new painting and sculpture by Buffalo-based artist Kyla Kegler. Through an exploration of her evolving relationship to utopia and the pursuit of pleasure, Kegler creates paintings that position abstraction as a vehicle for world-building. Utilizing the grid as an armature to decorate and disobey, she focuses on relationships between material, color, texture, and mark. Kegler plays with numerous materials to create layered surfaces that shift with light and the viewer's proximity - an ode to the Jungian idea that meaning is not immediate but accumulates over time.
