Kim Garcia uses resin as a metaphorical and physical preservative to explore themes of memory, colonial history, and identity. Her practice is deeply rooted in sculpture, where she treats resin not just as a medium, but as a "fossilizing" agent—similar to amber—to capture stories that are beginning to fade. She intentionally blurs the resin surfaces with pigments and inks to create a "hazy" or "foggy" effect. This mirrors the fragmented nature of her father's memories during his journey with dementia and the difficulty of navigating colonial archives.
