Felix Beaudry, Pawky Pete, 2023
Machine-knit fabric
28.5 × 18 × 10.5 inches
At Felix Beaudry’s studio in Kingston, NY, the artist programs patterns and imagery into a Stoll knitting machine, first converting an abstract idea of dimensional form into a flat image, which is then translated through the computer into knit stitches on the machine. The resulting fabric expands and contracts in areas, creating a dimensional skin which is either stuffed or left loose as a tapestry. The gap between Beaudry’s initial visual projection and what is actually born from the machine beautifully mirrors transition as a space of fantasy and desire.
