Sujin Choi, The Urgent Bird, 2025
Oil on canvas
10 × 10 inches

Known for exploring layered memories through large-scale canvases, Choi Sujin expands her practice in this NADA project by presenting works in a range of formats. Notably, the 10-inch square paintings featured in NADA Miami 2025 serve as experimental spaces where the artist visualizes fleeting memories and the imagery emerging at the threshold between consciousness and the unconscious. Despite their modest scale, these works contain densely arranged motifs that encapsulate the artist’s distilled “landscapes of the moment.”
Recurring motifs such as birds, moles, and snails—common creatures from the artist’s everyday surroundings—are reinterpreted within the pictorial field as mediators linking conscious and unconscious realms. They also function as quiet observers of the artist’s synesthetic explorations. Through these small yet symbolically charged figures, the works articulate subtle passages through memory, further refining the contours of the artist’s visual world.
