Milo Matthieu, Mache vil la, 2025
oil wood, soft pastel, canvas on linen
15 × 9 inches
To produce his paintings and collages, Milo Matthieu practices “psychic autonomism”—an automatic artmaking process that was popular among Surrealist and Dada circles. The results are vivid, highly textured portraits and abstracted group scenes that come from unguarded, in-the-moment manifestations of his subconscious. Fractured faces and planes convey the artist’s often uneasy emotional terrain.
