Iowa proudly presents a new series of paintings by New York–based painter Ingrid Hansen, whose work probes moral and spiritual quandaries within the human condition. Her portraits of Kate Moss and Johnny Depp reflect on a romance so alluring as to inspire questions of foreordination, echoed in her studies of Jacobin pigeons—creatures bred in pursuit of perfection, embodying the duress inherent to desire. Hansen further evokes this tension by rendering Lady Gaga's performance of Paparazzi, whose visually baroque and pontifical production speaks to the promise of pain and agony inherent to fame.
