Agustina Lazarte, Dîner chez Gaby, 2025
Oil on cardboard
8 × 8 inches
“Dîner chez Gaby” captures the moment just before eating an empanada, a simple gesture deeply tied to the artist’s Tucumán identity. The work brings symbolic tension into play: an empanada served on a European-style ceramic plate contrasts with the precariousness of the support, creating a dialogue between the aspirational and the real.
Through this friction, the artist reflects on the distance between fantasy and everyday life, while simultaneously reaffirming pride in her origins.
