24 K gold thread on handmade abaca and cotton paper
32 × 45 × 2 inches
Abdolreza Aminlari is a Brooklyn-based artist who employs geometric patterning and embroidery in his work. Rooted in memories of the animals, symbols, and patterns of the Persian rugs from his childhood, the work transcends those origins, encouraging interpretations that are not bound to any singular culture or context.
Using both 24-karat gold thread and common sewing thread, Aminlari hand-stitches directly into handmade or hand-painted paper to achieve a variety of visual effects. Influenced by architecture and the geometric structures of Persian carpets, these works function as discrete investigations of scale, light, and color. Aminlari’s practice is also deeply concerned with labor and the fundamental process of repetition inherent in the act of sewing.
