Drawing on the complicated histories of the coastal zones in which they were raised, Shuvinai Ashoona and Manuel Mathieu’s vibrant, gestural works explore the legacies of social upheaval and the foundations of survivance. NADA offers an unprecedented opportunity to connect their practices, which similarly explore littorals as sites of cultural exchange and colonial violence, depict the fundamental hybridity of the natural world, and collapse the binary logics of anthropocentrism and linear time.
