As a child the artist’s grandmother would take her to a church for mass. She remembers kneeling down at the Altar Rail. The purpose of this rail was not only to receive the Holy Eucharist but was used as a demarcation of the chancel and a strict separation between parishioner and clergy. In her sculpture ‘Barricade’, she has created a rail that is about the same height.
