“In 2016 I created a collaborative drawing performance, “Mirror Portraits” which I did for the first time at the Columbia MFA First year show at the Wallach Gallery, NYC. This performance invited viewers of the show to participate with me in making 2 minute portrait drawings with crayons on paper following a simple set of instructions. Both people participating in the mirror portrait drawing take turns choosing a color used by both participants and copying or mirroring the other persons lines on paper as the drawing is made. The result is a layered, composite drawing of both peoples faces on two separate sheets of paper, (examples below). The mirror portrait performance breaks down the binary between the maker and the viewer as both engage in the art making process and it facilitates an experience of intimacy potentially between strangers in a public space.”
